STUDENT REFLECTION AND EMPLOYER’S SUMMARY : 7th OCTOBER 2024 – 10th OCTOBER 2024 (WEEK 1)
STUDENT REFLECTION
Weekly
Activities:
During the
first week of my practicum at the Ghazali Shafie Graduate School of Government
(GSGSG), I was warmly welcomed by the team and introduced to the various roles
within the VIVA Unit. The orientation session was comprehensive, providing me
with an overview of the academic programs offered, the structure of the GSGSG,
and the specific functions of the VIVA Unit. I observed the setup for the
viva-voce sessions, which included the arrangement of necessary equipment and
documentation. Additionally, I spent time familiarizing myself with the UUM
handbook, which detailed the Master's and PhD programs, including course
structures, fees, and academic procedures. This foundational week was crucial
in helping me understand the environment I would be working in and the
expectations of my role.
Knowledge/Skills
Acquired:
Throughout this
week, I acquired valuable knowledge about the administrative processes involved
in academic programs. I learned about the importance of meticulous
documentation and the various forms required for thesis submissions and
viva-voce sessions. My skills in formal communication were also enhanced as I
began drafting emails and letters to various people that involved. Furthermore,
I gained insights into the significance of the VIVA Unit in ensuring that
students meet their academic requirements, which deepened my appreciation for
the behind-the-scenes work that supports student success.
Impact on
Student:
This initial
week had a profound impact on my confidence and motivation. The orientation
provided a solid foundation for understanding the expectations of my role, and
I felt more prepared to contribute effectively to the team. I realized the
importance of being organized and proactive in an academic setting, which
encouraged me to take initiative in my tasks. Overall, this week set a positive
tone for my practicum experience, igniting my enthusiasm for the upcoming
challenges and learning opportunities.
